- Alveopora (Alveopora spp.)
Alveopora are elegant large polyp stony (LPS) corals admired for their long, delicate polyps and graceful movement. Often referred to as “flower corals,” Alveopora display extended polyps that gently sway in the current, creating a soft, flowing appearance that brings natural motion and life to a reef aquarium.
- Colour & Appearance
Alveopora species are available in a range of attractive colours including greens, yellows, pinks and subtle metallic tones. Each polyp typically features 12 petal-like tentacles, giving the coral a distinctive floral appearance that sets it apart from similar species. Under blue spectrum lighting, their colours often glow with beautiful fluorescence.
- Placement & Flow Requirements
Alveopora thrive under low to moderate lighting and prefer gentle to moderate, indirect water flow. Avoid strong, direct flow which can cause the polyps to remain retracted. Best placed in lower to mid areas of the aquarium where they can fully extend and display their movement.
- Care Level & Compatibility
Alveopora are generally considered moderately hardy when kept in stable reef systems. They benefit from occasional feeding with fine coral foods and should be given adequate space from aggressive neighbouring corals.
- Water Parameters
Temperature: 24–26°C
Salinity: 1.024–1.026 SG
Alkalinity: 8–10 dKH
Calcium: 400–450 ppm
Magnesium: 1250–1350 ppm
- Summary
With their soft, flower-like polyps and gentle swaying motion, Alveopora corals add colour, movement and elegance to both mixed reef and LPS-dominated aquariums.
