Behaviour & Characteristics

Graceful and constantly active, this species spends its day foraging across rockwork and substrate in search of natural prey. Like all leopard wrasses, it will bury itself in sand at night or when startled, making a suitable sand bed a non-negotiable requirement.

Initially shy, it will settle with time in a calm, well-established environment.

Feeding

A natural micro-predator, the Choati Wrasse feeds on small invertebrates in the wild.
In captivity, success relies on:

  • A mature aquarium with a healthy copepod population
  • Live foods during acclimation
  • Transitioning onto frozen foods such as mysis and brine shrimp

This species can be challenging to establish, and consistent feeding is key to long-term success.

Compatibility

  • Best housed with peaceful tank mates
  • Avoid aggressive or highly active species
  • Reef safe with corals
  • May predate very small shrimp or microfauna
