Firefish – Nemateleotris magnifica
 
The Firefish is a beautiful and elegant reef fish, admired for its slender body, bright white to pink colouration and vivid orange-red tail. Peaceful, graceful and full of subtle movement, Nemateleotris magnifica makes a lovely addition to a calm, well-maintained marine aquarium.
 
This species is generally reef safe with corals and invertebrates, making it an excellent choice for reef systems. Firefish are best kept with peaceful tank mates, as they can be shy and may retreat into rockwork if housed with overly boisterous fish. Providing caves, crevices and secure hiding places will help them settle and display more confidently.
 
Best kept in a stable, mature aquarium with good water quality and a tight-fitting lid, as Firefish are known jumpers, especially when startled. Feed a varied diet of enriched frozen foods, mysis, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood and quality marine pellets or flakes to maintain colour, condition and long-term health.
