  • Goniopora (Goniopora spp.)

The Goniopora Coral (Goniopora spp.) is a striking and elegant large polyp stony (LPS) coral, prized for its long, flowing polyps and flower-like appearance. Each polyp extends into delicate tentacles tipped with small rounded ends, creating a soft, meadow-like movement that adds depth and visual interest to the reef aquarium.

  • Colour & Appearance

Goniopora corals are available in a wide range of vibrant colour forms, including greens, reds, pinks, yellows and multi-coloured varieties. Under blue spectrum lighting, their colours intensify, producing a glowing and dynamic display. When fully extended, the long polyps create a gentle, swaying motion that brings a natural, flowing aesthetic to the aquarium.

  • Placement & Flow Requirements

This coral thrives under moderate lighting and prefers gentle to moderate, indirect water flow. Avoid strong, direct flow, which can cause the polyps to retract. Best placed on the sand bed or lower to mid-level rockwork where it has space to fully extend and sway naturally.

  • Care Level & Compatibility

Suitable for aquarists with some reef-keeping experience, Goniopora require stable water conditions and benefit from regular feeding. They are generally peaceful but should be given adequate space from neighbouring corals to prevent irritation.
