  • Leather Corals (Sarcophyton, Sinularia & Lobophytum spp.)

Leather corals are hardy and attractive soft corals that bring natural movement and structure to a reef aquarium. Known for their distinctive shapes and flowing polyps, these corals form thick, leathery colonies that gently sway in the current, creating a dynamic and natural reef-like appearance.

  • Colour & Appearance

Leather corals are commonly found in shades of tan, cream, green and golden hues. Many varieties develop extended polyps that cover the surface of the colony, giving them a soft, fuzzy appearance when fully open. Under blue spectrum lighting, certain species can display subtle fluorescence, adding extra visual appeal to the aquarium.

  • Placement & Flow Requirements

Leather corals thrive under moderate lighting and prefer moderate, indirect water flow. Adequate flow helps them shed their outer layer during natural growth cycles. Best positioned on rockwork where they have room to expand and grow.
