Mystery Wrasse – Pseudocheilinus ocellatus
A striking and highly desirable wrasse, the Mystery Wrasse is a beautifully coloured species with rich pink to burgundy tones, fine yellow facial markings and distinctive ocelli that give it a truly unusual appearance. Compact, confident and full of character, Pseudocheilinus ocellatus makes a superb feature fish for the right marine aquarium.
This species is generally reef safe with corals and can be a useful hunter of small worms, pests and natural microfauna within the rockwork. However, it can become territorial, especially once established, so care should be taken when mixing it with very peaceful or timid fish. It may also take an interest in very small ornamental shrimp or delicate invertebrates.
Best kept in a mature, stable aquarium with plenty of live rock, caves and hiding places. A tight-fitting lid is essential, as wrasse can jump when startled. Feed a varied meaty diet including enriched mysis, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, quality frozen foods and marine pellets to maintain colour, condition and long-term health.
A bold, colourful and characterful wrasse that brings premium colour and personality to a well-maintained reef aquarium.
