  • Parascolymia (Parascolymia vitiensis)

The Parascolymia (Parascolymia vitiensis) is one of the most sought-after LPS corals in the reef hobby, prized for its incredible colouration and impressive fleshy appearance. Often referred to as a “Scoly,” this coral forms a single large polyp that can inflate dramatically, creating a bold and luxurious centrepiece within the aquarium.

  • Colour & Appearance

Specimens display a breath-taking blend of colours, often vibrant reds, oranges, yellows, greens and metallic blues, very often within the same coral. These colours form striking rings and patterns radiating from the central mouth, producing a true rainbow effect. Under blue spectrum lighting, the pigments glow intensely, highlighting the coral’s intricate patterns and giving it exceptional visual depth.

  • Placement & Flow Requirements

Parascolymia vitiensis thrives under low to moderate lighting and prefers gentle, indirect water flow.Avoid strong flow which can irritate the delicate fleshy tissue. Best placed on the sand bed, where the coral can fully inflate without risk of damage from surrounding rockwork.

  • Care Level & Compatibility

Parascolymia are generally hardy when maintained in stable reef systems. They benefit from occasional feeding with small meaty foods, which can promote growth and fuller expansion. Ensure adequate space around the coral, as the tissue can expand significantly.

  • Water Parameters

  • Summary
