Powder Blue Tang – Acanthurus leucosternon
 
The Powder Blue Tang is one of the most iconic and visually striking surgeonfish in the marine aquarium hobby. With its intense powder-blue body, bold black facial mask, white chest and vivid yellow dorsal fin, Acanthurus leucosternon brings exceptional colour, movement and presence to a mature reef aquarium.
 
This species is best suited to a large, stable and well-established system with excellent water quality, strong oxygenation, plenty of open swimming space and mature live rock for grazing. Powder Blue Tangs are active swimmers and natural algae grazers, spending much of their time browsing rockwork and aquarium surfaces.
 
Generally reef safe with corals and most invertebrates, although they can be territorial, particularly towards other tangs or similar-shaped surgeonfish. Introductions should be planned carefully, and this species benefits greatly from a calm, well-managed aquarium with minimal stress.
 
A varied diet is essential and should include marine algae, nori, spirulina-based foods, quality herbivore pellets and enriched frozen foods to support colour, immune health and long-term condition.
