  • Acropora spp. – Premium SPS Coral

Acropora are one of the most iconic and desirable SPS corals in the reef-keeping hobby, known for their striking colours, intricate branching structures, and stunning reef-building growth forms. When kept in the right conditions, they can become true centrepiece corals, developing into spectacular colonies that bring height, texture, and vibrant colour to a mature reef aquarium.

This coral is best suited to reef keepers with stable, well-established systems and a good understanding of SPS coral care. Acropora thrive in aquariums with strong lighting, high water movement, and consistently maintained water parameters. Stability is essential, as sudden changes in alkalinity, nutrients, temperature, or salinity can quickly cause stress, colour loss, tissue recession, or bleaching.

Care Level: Intermediate to Advanced
Temperament: Peaceful
Lighting: High
Flow: Strong, random, turbulent flow
Placement: Upper to mid-level rockwork
Growth Form: Branching, tabling, bushy, or plating depending on species
Feeding: Primarily photosynthetic, but will benefit from amino acids, fine coral foods, and plankton-based nutrition

Recommended Water Parameters:
Temperature: 24–26°C
Salinity: 1.025–1.026
Alkalinity: 7.5–9 dKH
Calcium: 420–450 ppm
Magnesium: 1300–1450 ppm
Nitrate: 2–10 ppm
Phosphate: 0.03–0.08 ppm

For best results, place Acropora where it will receive strong lighting and consistent, indirect flow. Avoid areas where detritus can settle between the branches, and ensure the coral has adequate space away from more aggressive neighbouring corals.

Acropora are best suited to mature aquariums rather than newly established systems, but for the dedicated reef keeper they offer some of the most rewarding growth, colouration, and natural reef structure available in the hobby. A superb choice for SPS-dominated systems and high-end reef displays.
