Queen Clown Wrasse / Queen Coris Wrasse – Coris formosa
 
The Queen Clown Wrasse, more commonly listed as the Queen Coris Wrasse or Formosa Wrasse, is a striking and highly active marine fish with dramatic colour changes as it matures. Juveniles display bold, contrasting markings with warm orange tones and pale spotting, while adults develop a much larger, more powerful appearance with refined patterning and strong display presence. The accepted species name is Coris formosa.
 
This species is best suited to a large, mature marine aquarium with plenty of open swimming space, secure rockwork and a deep sand bed, as it will bury itself at night or when startled. It is an energetic, intelligent and confident wrasse that brings constant movement and character to the aquarium.
 
As it grows, the Queen Coris Wrasse can become boisterous and may disturb sand, rubble or unsecured coral pieces. It is not ideal for delicate reef systems and may prey on smaller ornamental invertebrates such as shrimp, crabs and snails. A tight-fitting lid is essential, as wrasse are known jumpers.
 
Feed a varied meaty diet including enriched mysis, krill, chopped seafood, quality frozen foods and marine pellets to maintain colour, condition and long-term health.
