  • Red Eye Pectinia (Pectinia spp.)

The Red Eye Pectinia is a rare and striking LPS coral known for its dramatic colour contrast and distinctive skeletal structure. With sharp, plating growth and pronounced ridges, this coral creates a bold, sculptural presence in the reef aquarium, quickly becoming a standout feature within the display.

  • Colour & Appearance

What makes this variety so special is its intense “red eye” centres, which glow vividly against a contrasting base that can range from greens and yellows to metallic blues or purples. Under blue spectrum lighting, the eyes fluoresce brilliantly, creating an almost glowing appearance across the coral’s ridges and valleys. The unique plate-like growth form adds depth and texture, giving the coral a dramatic, layered look.

  • Placement & Flow Requirements

Pectinia corals prefer moderate lighting and gentle to moderate water flow.Avoid pla cing in areas with strong direct flow. Best positioned on lower rockwork or isolated areas where the coral has space to grow outward.

Due to its aggressive nature, adequate spacing from neighbouring corals is recommended.

  • Care Level & Compatibility

Suitable for aquarists with some reef-keeping experience, Pectinia corals are relatively hardy when kept in stable reef conditions. They can extend sweeper tentacles, especially at night, so ensure neighbouring corals are positioned at a safe distance.
