Sailfin Tang – Zebrasoma veliferum
The Sailfin Tang is an impressive and highly distinctive surgeonfish, admired for its large, elegant dorsal and anal fins, bold striped patterning and strong display presence. When fully extended, its sail-like fins give Zebrasoma veliferum a commanding appearance, making it a standout feature fish in a spacious marine aquarium.
This species is best suited to a large, mature system with plenty of open swimming space, established live rock and natural grazing areas. Sailfin Tangs are active algae grazers and will spend much of their time browsing rockwork and aquarium surfaces, helping add both movement and practical utility to the reef.
Generally reef safe with corals and most invertebrates, although they can become territorial towards other tangs or similar-shaped surgeonfish, particularly as they grow. A varied diet should include marine algae, nori, spirulina-based foods, quality herbivore pellets and enriched frozen foods to support colour, condition and long-term health.
A bold, graceful and characterful tang for the right aquarium, offering impressive size, striking markings and constant activity.
