Scopas Tang – Zebrasoma scopas

The Scopas Tang is a hardy, active and underrated member of the Zebrasoma family, valued for its constant grazing behaviour and subtle natural beauty. With its warm brown to olive body, fine patterning and elegant sail-like fins, Zebrasoma scopas brings movement, character and practical algae control to a mature marine aquarium.

This species is best suited to a spacious, well-established system with plenty of live rock, natural grazing surfaces and open swimming room. Scopas Tangs spend much of their day browsing algae and film growth from rockwork and aquarium surfaces, making them both an attractive display fish and a useful addition to the reef.

Generally reef safe with corals and most invertebrates, although they can become territorial towards other tangs or similar-shaped surgeonfish, especially once settled. A varied diet should include marine algae, nori, spirulina-based foods, quality herbivore pellets and enriched frozen foods to support colour, condition and long-term health.

A reliable, characterful and highly useful tang for the right aquarium, offering natural grazing behaviour, steady activity and understated reef appeal.
