Ultra Branching Hammer Coral (Fimbriaphyllia paraancora)
The Ultra Branching Hammer Coral (Fimbriaphyllia paraancora) is a breath-taking large polyp stony (LPS) coral prized for its vivid colouration and distinctive hammer-shaped tentacles. Unlike wall varieties, the branching form develops multiple individual heads on separate skeletal branches, creating a fuller, more dimensional display within the reef aquarium.
 
Colour & Appearance
Ultra specimens showcase intense, high-grade colouration, often featuring neon greens, golds, bright purples or striking bi-colour combinations with contrasting tips. Under blue spectrum lighting, the fluorescent tips glow brilliantly, giving the coral exceptional visual impact. When fully extended, the flowing tentacles produce graceful, wave-like movement that brings life and energy to the aquarium.
 
Placement & Flow Requirements
This coral thrives under moderate lighting and prefers gentle to moderate, indirect water flow. Avoid strong, direct flow, which can cause tissue retraction. Position mid to lower areas of the aquarium where it has space to expand. The branching structure makes it slightly more resilient than wall forms, but adequate spacing is still recommended to prevent contact with neighbouring corals.
 
Care Level & Compatibility
Suitable for aquarists with some reef-keeping experience, the Ultra Branching Hammer adapts well to stable, established systems. It may extend sweeper tentacles, so allow appropriate distance from other corals.
