- Wall Hammer Coral (Fimbriaphyllia ancora)
The Wall Hammer Coral (Fimbriaphyllia ancora) is a truly stunning large polyp stony (LPS) coral, admired for its long, continuous skeletal wall and flowing hammer-shaped tentacles. Unlike branching varieties, the wall form grows along a single extended skeleton, creating a dramatic, sweeping display that adds movement and elegance to any reef aquarium.
- Colour & Appearance
Wall Hammers are available in a range of vibrant colours, including neon greens, golds, purples and bi-colour combinations. Under blue spectrum lighting, their tips often glow intensely, producing striking fluorescence and beautiful contrast. When fully extended, the gently swaying tentacles create a mesmerising, natural reef effect.
- Placement & Flow Requirements
This coral thrives under moderate lighting and prefers gentle to moderate, indirect water flow. Avoid strong, direct flow, as it can damage the delicate tissue along the skeletal wall. Best positioned on stable rockwork or lower areas of the aquarium where it has room to expand. Allow sufficient space around the colony, as it may extend sweeper tentacles.
- Care Level & Compatibility
Suitable for aquarists with some reef-keeping experience, the Wall Hammer requires stable water parameters and careful placement. As a wall variety, it is more delicate than branching forms and should be handled with care.
