Yellow Eye Kole Tang – Ctenochaetus strigosus

The Yellow Eye Kole Tang is a beautiful and highly useful bristletooth tang, admired for its rich brown to burgundy body, fine horizontal striping and distinctive bright yellow eye. More refined and understated than some of the brighter tang species, Ctenochaetus strigosus brings constant movement, character and natural grazing behaviour to a mature marine aquarium.

This species is best suited to an established system with plenty of live rock, open swimming space and natural grazing surfaces. Like other bristletooth tangs, it spends much of its time browsing film algae, detritus and natural growth from rockwork and aquarium surfaces, making it both an attractive display fish and a valuable working grazer.

Generally reef safe with corals and most invertebrates, although it may become territorial towards other tangs or similar-shaped surgeonfish, especially once settled. A varied diet should include marine algae, nori, spirulina-based foods, quality herbivore pellets and enriched frozen foods to support colour, condition and long-term health.

A hardy, active and characterful tang that offers excellent utility, subtle beauty and constant presence within a well-maintained reef aquarium.
